SUMMARY:Faust (1926) / Murnau 101
DESCRIPTION:MURNAU 101\n“Faust”\nDirector: F. W. Murnau\nYear of production: 1926\nLength: 106 min.\nTitles: Gjermanisht/English\nEntrance: FREE \nFaust is a 1926 silent film directed by F. W. Murnau\, drawing on older traditions of the legendary tale of Faust as well as on Goethe’s classic version. Faust was Murnau’s last German film\, and directly afterward he moved to the US to direct Sunrise: A Song of Two Humans (1927). It is considered by critics as one the most visually sophisticated films ever made and a timeless classic in the horror genre. \nFriedrich Wilhelm Murnau (1888 – 1931) was a German film director\, greatly influenced by Schopenhauer\, Nietzsche\, Shakespeare and Ibsen plays he had seen at the age of 12. During World War I he served as a company commander at the eastern front and was in the German air force. He created the 1922 vampire thriller Nosferatu\, as well as such compelling examination of love as 1927’s Sunrise and 1931’s Tabu. Murnau’s promising career was cut short by a car accident in 1931.
