SUMMARY:Winter Academy for Diplomacy and International Relations
DESCRIPTION:Second Edition of the “Winter Academy for Diplomacy and International Relations” from 08 – 11 December 2017 in Prishtina\, Republic of Kosovo \nThe Academy for Protocol and Diplomacy has a great pleasure to invite you to Participate at the Second Edition of the “Winter Academy for Diplomacy and International Relations” which will be held from 08 – 11 December 2017 in Prishtina\, Republic of Kosovo. Participants will also have a chance and the pleasure to visit different places of Prishtina such as: New Born Monument\, National Library\, Ethnological Museum and Mother Theresa Square. \nCOURSE DESCRIPTION\nThe overall aim of this course will be to introduce students to the art of diplomacy in the Western tradition with an emphasis on the beginning of the 19th century through to contemporary international politics. In particular\, the course will stress the evolution of the role of diplomacy\, diplomatic communication\, preventive diplomacy and coercive diplomacy over time and how such factors as technology\, communications and ideology have impacted the efficiency of the diplomatic process. Students will be shown the relationship of diplomacy to the political system\, especially how the ambassador’s role is rooted in constitutions and international norms. The course will provide a clear account of the shape and functions of the world diplomatic system as it stands at the beginning of the 21st century: what it is\, what it does and why it is important. \nThe course also aims to provide knowledge of the nature of diplomacy; when diplomacy is appropriate; the advantages and disadvantages of different diplomatic methods; and the lexicon of diplomacy. Students will be given a strong grasp of the nature of diplomacy conceived as a specialized professional activity developed over many centuries and be able to defend its value with authority and enthusiasm. \nREADINGS AND ASSIGNMENTS\nThe course will not have a final exam. Instead\, students will be expected to raise a series of short papers / topics throughout the sessions\, engage into in-class debates and participation activities and submit a final paper. The final paper shall be an examination of one particular diplomat and a crisis that he or she dealt with. More information shall be given in class. Furthermore\, upon the registration\, participants will receive preparatory material\, which include the Agenda\, the course handbook\, related publications and sources. Lectures\, presentations and examinations will be held in English. \nTARGET GROUPS\nStudents with different academic backgrounds and a general interest in negotiation\, diplomacy\, diplomatic correspondence and international relations will benefit from each other in an intercultural and interdisciplinary learning process. Former classes consisted of regular students and practitioners such as civil servants\, communication experts\, EU Institutions employee\, young politicians and even parliamentary officials. \nThe course does not require special knowledge about international relations\, diplomacy\, international negotiations\, history or culture\, but participants should be interested in more than just their field of specialization. In class participation\, especially in class discussions with experts\, is essential for the course success and plays an important role in having success in the course. \nPREVIOUS GROUPS\nOur previous groups contained participants from: UN International Staff\, EUCFSP Staff\, Representatives from European governments\, Military Officers\, Civil Society Officials\, Young Professionals\, Students with BA\, MA and PhD background levels from all over the world. \nAPPLICATION FOR PARTICIPATION\nAll participants interested to take part in the Winter Academy must send their CV-s and Motivation Letters to: prot.diplo.academy@gmail.com by 30th November 2017\, at 23:59. \nPARTICIPANTS ELIGIBLE TO APPLY\nEligible to apply are all potential participants / candidates that DO NOT NEED VISA TO ENTER to the Republic of Kosovo. \nTUITION FEES\nThe tuition fees differ from where are you from\, and they are as follow:\n– Tuition fees for Kosovo participants / candidates are 65 euro\,\n– Tuition fees for Non – Kosovo participants / candidates are 115 euro. \nTHESE TUITION FEES WILL INCLUDE:\n– For Kosovo participants / candidates\, it will include coffee breaks\, three lunches\, all lectures\, workshops\, course materials\, social events\, study visits and certification\,\n– For Non – Kosovo participants / candidates (from all other states)\, it will include coffee breaks\, three lunches\, housing for three nights\, lectures\, workshops\, course materials\, social events\, study visits and certification. \nWhereas\, any potential cost regarding the bank transfer fees for the participation fees\, have to be covered by the potential participants / candidates. \nSCHOLARSHIPS\nThanks to the ADP generosity\, its supporters and donors\, we will offer up to three 100% scholarships (that covers full participation fees to the academy). \nTherefore\, the participants / candidates further academic development remains our highest priority in these activities where you can make use of the low cost of this event in comparison with other International events and activities in the South Western Europe. High Academic Standards\, exciting Cultural and Social Academic Program will be offered to you for a very reasonable price! \nThus\, the only thing participants have to worry about\, is to get concentrated only on studying\, giving your best and enjoying yourself and Republic of Kosovo beauties.
